Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom has concluded a four-day visit to Bangladesh, returning after eight years in his capacity as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. UNICEF confirmed the visit through an official Facebook post.
During his trip, Bloom visited the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. He met Rohingya children, teachers, and community workers, gaining insight into the education programs functioning within the camps.
“I’m back in Bangladesh after over eight years and this time I traveled to Cox’s Bazar, to the world’s largest refugee camp. It’s home to over 1.1 million Rohingya refugees, over half of them children,” UNICEF quoted Bloom as saying.
“My conversations this week with Rohingya children and youth, as well as community workers and teachers, have been heartbreaking. Rohingya children WANT to study and build their futures, but funding cuts are threatening their access to education and basic services like soap and clean water.”
Bloom shared the story of two children symbolizing the resilience of the Rohingya people. He highlighted 14-year-old Aziz, who aspires to become an engineer to develop a drone that can reveal the plight of the Rohingya to the world.
“Two children I talked to fully represent the Rohingya people’s resilience - 14-year-old Aziz who told me he dreams of becoming an engineer to build a drone and show the world the situation the Rohingya are going through.”
Throughout his visit, Bloom posted photos and reflections about his experience on his official Instagram account, further raising awareness about the camp’s challenges.
Summary: Orlando Bloom’s recent trip to Cox’s Bazar highlights the urgent need to sustain education and basic aid for Rohingya children facing severe funding shortages.
