Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox has begun a demanding 135-mile journey to support Children in Need. The Bolton-born DJ is taking on a five-day challenge that begins in Kielder Forest near the Scottish border and concludes in the town of Pudsey, Leeds.
This year’s event follows the example of her colleague Paddy McGuinness, who raised £10 million last year after completing a challenging cycling route. Unlike Paddy, Sara’s trek is entirely on foot.
The “Great Northern Marathon Challenge” will take her across four counties—Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire. Her goal is to finish by Friday, November 14, just in time for the live Children in Need broadcast on BBC One.
Throughout the journey, Sara will carry Pudsey Bear, aiming to bring the mascot symbolically from one Pudsey to another.
“We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”
“When they picked me to get Pudsey to Pudsey, I was honoured and horrified in equal measure.”
