Ian Leavers, who led the Queensland Police Union for 15 years from 2009 to 2024, was found dead at his Brisbane home on Monday morning. The 57-year-old was discovered just before 10 a.m. in Mount Ommaney, Brisbane’s south-west, under circumstances described by police as non-suspicious.
Police responded to a sudden death call at approximately 9:50 a.m. Investigations are ongoing, according to a police spokesperson.
After stepping down from the union, Leavers was appointed Queensland’s first Cross-Border Commissioner in August 2024, a role focused on supporting border communities.
