A woman and a child tragically drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek on the afternoon of 10 November, police reported.
A witness alerted authorities around 3:45 pm, stating that two individuals had been swept away near Allan Street after falling into the creek. According to police, the woman likely entered the water to help the child but got into trouble herself.
Police conducted a search of the area, locating the unconscious pair. They were pulled from the water and resuscitation efforts were immediately started, but unfortunately, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not been confirmed yet. Police will compile a report to be submitted to the coroner.
