Mike Shinoda discussed the fan reaction to Emily Armstrong, the new vocalist for Linkin Park's comeback, emphasizing its overwhelmingly positive response. He made it clear that he never wanted the band to reunite with someone trying to imitate Chester Bennington.
"They can do that in their band. I don't want it to be our band."
Shinoda acknowledged that Chester Bennington was a unique and deeply influential figure who could never be replaced. He believes that Emily Armstrong has succeeded because she honors Chester's legacy in her own way rather than trying to be him.
"She works really hard, and she does a great job on these songs. I think the most important thing is that she doesn't try to imitate Chester. I think that if we were to be on stage with somebody who was pretending to be him, it would be so fucking weird. I'm fine with people who do that. There are cover bands and stuff. I don't have a problem with them at all."
Shinoda made it clear that while fans can enjoy tribute or cover bands, Linkin Park itself should not be a place for imitation.
Mike Shinoda highlights that Linkin Park’s reunion respects Chester Bennington’s legacy by featuring Emily Armstrong, who brings her own identity rather than imitating the late vocalist.
