Super Typhoon Uwan intensified early Sunday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported. The agency raised Signal No. 5 in Polillo Islands, parts of Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes as the storm strengthened.
According to Pagasa, Uwan is now a super typhoon with maximum sustained winds reaching 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts up to 230 kph. The typhoon was last positioned 125 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, moving west-northwest at 25 kph.
Pagasa issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 for areas facing extreme, life-threatening conditions due to typhoon-force winds, with speeds exceeding 185 kph expected within the next twelve hours.
