The episode opened with a New York City mayoral debate featuring Miles Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zohran Mamdami, and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa. It was the funniest cold open of the season and perhaps the best performance Shane Gillis has delivered on SNL. The sketch was excellent, although James Austin Johnson’s Trump was brought in with a memorable line:
“I have good brain. I took a cognitive test and I did so well that they immediately gave me an MRI.”
There is hope that Mamdami’s potential win will bring more Ramy Youssef appearances.
Score: 7/10
Miles Teller delivered a decent monologue with good energy. Following the loss of his house in the Pallisades fire, he seemed a bit more humble. Notably, he did not mention his upcoming movie Eternity, which is set to be released later this month.
Score: 5/10
The show started with another game show sketch called What Did I Do Last Night?, where hungover contestants try to recall their previous night’s activities. The sketch was mediocre and lacked the twist element that could make it engaging. The season’s writers have yet to refine this aspect, making many sketches too predictable.
Score: 5/10
Miles Teller portrayed both Property Brothers helping the White House with renovations. The sketch felt too close to reality and was more somber than funny.
Score: 6/10
This public service announcement about hockey was surprisingly funnier than expected, standing out positively in the episode.
