Former Georgia Coach Mark Richt First Guest in Tragedy into Triumph Series

MOUNT VERNON — Life presents challenges to everyone, regardless of their status or wealth. Wendell Brown considers helping others navigate these difficulties through the "Tragedy into Triumph" series one of his life's callings. This ministry hosts a three-night event at the R.R. Hodges Chapel and Fine Arts Center on Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s campus.

Mark Richt’s Coaching and Life Philosophy

Mark Richt, former head football coach at the University of Georgia and three-year coach of the Miami Hurricanes, is currently an in-studio analyst for the ACC/ESPN Network. Over his 33-year coaching career, including 14 years at Georgia, Richt developed insights not only about football but also about life.

“Things are not always going to go the way you want and there are things that are going to happen to you in life,” Richt said. “Some of those things you cannot control, but you can control how you react to them.”

Facing Parkinson’s Disease with Strength

In May 2021, Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Drawing on his experience in football, he embraces the challenge ahead with resilience.

“The reason I love football is that it is tough,” Richt said. “You are guaranteed to get knocked down, but you just have to get back up.”

His mindset on perseverance both on and off the field inspires those facing adversity.
