Star Wars Visions Review: “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope”

After the original “The Ninth Jedi” short left a lasting impression, the announcement of a full series in 2026 was thrilling news. Until then, Production IG has returned with “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, as part of Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3.

This new episode is an intriguing continuation that expands the world of the short and hints at the tone the upcoming series might take. However, it also made me wish it had been included as an opening episode for the series rather than a standalone follow-up.

While I really enjoyed “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,” it serves mostly as a bridge between the self-contained original short and the limited series Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi. This departure from the usual style of Visions episodes is notable.

“To my last point, don’t get me wrong, I really did like ‘The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope,’ but given how it’s more a halfway point to get us from a self-contained short to what might come in the limited series... I’d rather this had been an opening episode for the series itself, as it departs from how Visions feels.”

The episode “The Duel: Payback” gave us a glimpse of how a sequel episode might be handled, remaining self-contained while building on previous stories, with another sequel episode planned to conclude Vol. 3.

Summary

“The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” skillfully bridges the original short and the upcoming series, offering a fresh perspective while leaving fans eager for more integrated storytelling in 2026.
