During his 13-year tenure as head coach at NC State, Dave Doeren has maintained steady but modest success. Since joining in 2013, the Wolfpack consistently won between seven and nine games each season from 2014 to 2023, never surpassing nine victories. Those seasons with nine wins each ended with AP Top 25 rankings, though the team has yet to reach the ACC Championship game, finishing just one win shy on multiple occasions.
NC State’s performance under Doeren reflects consistent competitiveness. Despite near misses at major milestones, the program has avoided drastic upheavals seen elsewhere in college football. Examples include Georgia’s coaching change from Mark Richt to Kirby Smart, which led to significant improvement, and Minnesota's firing of Glen Mason after multiple bowl appearances followed by fewer postseason games.
"I'm having a blast," Doeren said on ESPN's Inside ACCess podcast. "I have four years left on my contract, I fully expect to coach in. So unless they kick me out of here, I'm going to keep coming to work and doing everything I can to help NC State. There's meat on the bone for me, personally."
Doeren clearly plans to continue leading the Wolfpack as long as he is supported, expressing enthusiasm for the work and commitment to the program's growth.
Dave Doeren dismisses retirement rumors, emphasizing his enjoyment and commitment to coaching NC State with ambitions for further success.
