Ariarne Titmus has shared the one question she has never been asked since announcing her retirement from competitive swimming. The four-time Olympic gold medallist expressed surprise at the unexpected reaction to her decision to step away from the sport.
In a recent interview on the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, Titmus told host Sarrah Le Marquand that nobody had inquired why she chose to retire while still at her peak.
“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue, but I certainly wasn’t expecting the reception I received.”
She described how, after posting the announcement at 8am Brisbane time, within thirty minutes social media was filled with articles and clips about her decision.
“I am at the top of my game, I’m still only 25, and I was concerned that the wider public wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why.”
Titmus explained that she is satisfied with her accomplishments and feels ready to face new challenges beyond swimming.
A significant moment came when she was part of the commentary team at the World Championships in July, which clarified her mindset about moving on from competitive swimming.
Ariarne Titmus’s retirement surprised many, and despite public curiosity, no one has asked her about her motives; she is content with her career achievements and eager for new pursuits.
