Olympic gold medallist Ariarne Titmus has opened up about the one question no one has asked her since she unexpectedly announced her retirement from competitive swimming.
In a recent episode of the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, the four-time Olympic champion reflected on the reactions that followed her decision to step away from the sport at the height of her career.
“I knew it would be a shock to a lot of people. It was quite out of the blue,” Titmus told host Sarrah Le Marquand.
Despite anticipating surprise, Titmus admitted that the intensity of the public response left her speechless.
“I wasn’t expecting the reception I received. The morning I hit post at 8am Brisbane time, within half an hour, social media was flooded with articles and clips,” she said.
Yet among the flood of reactions, one question she anticipated never came up.
“I’m at the top of my game, I’m only 25, and I was concerned people wouldn’t understand my reasoning. But I haven’t had one person asking me why,” Titmus explained.
She also shared that she feels content with her success and is excited for what comes next. A key turning point, she noted, came when she was part of the commentary team during the World Championships in July.
