Peloton has announced an immediate recall of its Original Series Bike+ models after receiving reports of broken seat posts that may cause falls and injuries.
The company urged all owners of the Original Series Bike+ to stop using their devices and request a free replacement seat post. In total, 833,000 units sold in the United States and about 44,800 in Canada are potentially affected.
“As part of Peloton’s commitment to product safety and our loyal Members, we are voluntarily recalling certain seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ models manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022, in cooperation with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission),” the company stated on its website.
According to Peloton, the seat post assembly on these models can break during use, creating a fall and injury hazard. The company has reported three incidents of seat post failure among the affected units in the United States, though there have been no such cases in Canada.
Customers can locate the serial number behind or inside the front fork, or near the flywheel, and should contact Peloton to arrange a seat post replacement.
Author’s summary: Peloton recalls nearly 900,000 bikes in the U.S. and Canada after seat post failures prompted safety concerns and a voluntary repair program.
