The Supreme Court has suspended the one-man Commission and the special investigation team (SIT) formed by the Tamil Nadu government to probe the stampede in Karur.

The stampede, which occurred during a rally by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay, resulted in the death of 41 individuals, including nine children.

The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which will be probed by a three-member committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi, thereby suspending the Commission headed by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan.

The court's decision comes after the case was transferred to the CBI.

The CBI will now investigate the deadly stampede.
