The Orlando Magic have faced a rough start this season, holding a 1-4 record with several disappointing losses before finding some rhythm in their last two wins. The team is now preparing for their final game of the current road trip against the Atlanta Hawks.
Despite expectations that the Magic would be one of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference, their early performances have not reflected that potential. Desmond Bane, a key new addition, has yet to meet expectations, posting averages of 14.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Meanwhile, Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner continue to carry the offensive load as the team’s leading scorers.
“It’s coming along pretty well. It’s so easy to look at these things and call them ‘big, glaring problems,’ and then you forget that there’s 70-plus games left…”
said Jalen Suggs, as quoted by Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. Though Suggs has yet to find his ideal form, he remains confident in the team’s long-term progress.
During the 1-4 opening stretch, Orlando allowed 122.6 points per game, with opponents shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from three-point range. On the offensive side, the team managed 114.0 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent overall and 31.2 percent from beyond the arc.
However, in their recent two-game winning streak, the Magic have tightened up defensively, holding opponents to an average of 100.7 points per game—a clear sign of progress following adjustments in practice.
The Orlando Magic are starting to stabilize after a rocky beginning, showing encouraging defensive growth and renewed confidence led by Jalen Suggs.
