Pitcher Alex Vesia missed the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series victory parade on Monday, November 3, as he continues to deal with a deeply personal family matter. PEOPLE confirmed that the 29-year-old athlete took time away from the team before the championship began.
“He’s such a big part of why we’re here in the first place,” said Dodgers pitcher Will Klein, acknowledging Vesia’s absence during the team’s celebration of their win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Vesia did not participate in any of the World Series games after the Dodgers announced that he and his wife Kayla were handling a personal situation. The organization released a statement expressing support for the couple and noted that an update would come at a later date.
“The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
The couple, who revealed in April that they were expecting their first child, had been sharing their journey on social media. However, neither Alex nor Kayla have posted since October 18, when they each expressed their excitement for the upcoming World Series.
After the final Game 7 on Saturday, November 1, Will Klein offered kind words for Alex and Kayla, wishing them well during this time away from the spotlight.
Alex Vesia missed the Dodgers’ victory parade while handling a private family matter, as teammates and the organization publicly voiced their support for him and his family.
