Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reportedly fallen out of favor following the collapse of a planned summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, according to The Moscow Times.
Lavrov's decline in Kremlin influence came after an unsuccessful discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which led to the cancellation of the Putin–Trump summit.
Russian media noted that Lavrov, who has led the Foreign Ministry for over 20 years, was absent from a crucial Security Council meeting on November 5. This meeting, chaired by Putin and involving permanent members of the council—including Lavrov—focused on resuming nuclear tests, which Russia last performed in 1990.
Lavrov was "absent by agreement" and was the only permanent Security Council member to skip the session.
Additionally, Lavrov has been replaced as head of the Russian delegation to the G20 summit. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Deputy Chief of Staff Maksim Oreshkin will lead the delegation this year, a decision made by President Putin.
Lavrov's recent diplomatic failures have led to his exclusion from key leadership roles, signaling a significant shift in his standing within the Kremlin.
