Serpent’s Tail has acquired [translate:Air], a speculative literary novel by Swiss author Christian Kracht, known for his International Booker Prize-nominated works. His previous novel, [translate:Eurotrash], is Waterstones Book of the Month for November 2025.
Rowan Cope, publisher of Profile Books, secured UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) including audio, from Charles Buchan at the Wylie Agency. Daniel Bowles will translate the novel from German, with publication planned for July 2026 in the UK.
“Stylistically exhilarating and thematically complex, [translate:Air] is a speculative literary novel that takes readers from a world recognisably our own into an unfamiliar, multi-layered universe in which the protagonists journey across a landscape that is both hostile and exquisitely wrought,” states the publisher.
Christian Kracht’s novels have been published in over 30 languages and have earned notable awards such as the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize, Swiss Book Prize, and Hermann Hesse Award. His work has also been shortlisted for international honors, including the Dublin Literary Award, German Book Award, and the 2025 International Booker Prize, where [translate:Eurotrash] was longlisted.
A film adaptation of [translate:Eurotrash] is scheduled for release in 2026.
