George Richard 'Rick' Furze Obituary

George Richard Furze was many things throughout his life — husband, father, grandfather, best friend, co-worker, and hero. He passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto at the age of 80.

Early Life and Passions

Raised on a farm, Rick developed a deep love for animals, tractors, classic trucks, and gardening. His vegetable garden was always notable for its giant pumpkins and bright sunflowers.

Work and Family

Hard work was a defining trait for Rick. He dedicated himself to building the home where he and his wife, Emily, raised their children Paula, Virginia, and Aaron. Even after retiring and moving to Meaford on Georgian Bay, Rick stayed active working at Knight’s Home Hardware, enjoying conversations about tools and helping others.

Later Life

In Meaford, Rick embraced life as a proud grandfather to Molly and a devoted partner to his best friend and farm companion, Brock. He treasured quiet moments with Emily by the harbour, watching boats return. Above all, his greatest love was his family.

“We will miss him dearly, but take comfort in knowing that he has finally sailed home.”
