Shadow Minister for Finance Adrian Delia has demanded that the government disclose the receipts related to the €900 million allegedly paid to Vitals Global Healthcare and Steward Health Care for managing Malta’s hospitals.
Speaking at a press conference outside St Luke’s Hospital, Dr Delia invited Prime Minister Robert Abela, former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, and the Cabinet to visit the site and witness firsthand how little progress has been made under the management agreement, including the promised 400-bed hospitals in Malta and Gozo.
"The government had lost, not won, its arbitration case," Dr Delia stated, accusing the Prime Minister of misleading the public.
Dr Delia criticized the government's decision to avoid Maltese courts and instead pursue secret international arbitration, which he claimed was meant to shield the process from media and opposition scrutiny.
On Monday, the International Chamber of Commerce Tribunal ruled that neither the Government of Malta nor Steward Health Care owes anything to the other after the termination of the hospital concession.
"The ICC also dismissed Steward’s claim for €148 million in damages, as well as the Maltese government’s own counterclaims for compensation from the US-based company."
Adrian Delia urges full disclosure of hospital payments, highlighting government opacity and minimal delivery under costly healthcare agreements.
