Contributing to Rehabilitation of Sindhuli Road Affected by Floods

On October 30, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of Nepal in Kathmandu to provide grant aid for the Programme for Emergency Rehabilitation of Sindhuli Road affected by floods. The agreement was signed by Foreign Aid Coordination Division Joint Secretary Dhani Ram Sharma of the Ministry of Finance and Chief Representative Matsuzaki Mizuki of JICA Nepal.

Importance of Sindhuli Road

The Sindhuli Road is a 160 km national highway connecting Kathmandu to the Eastern Terai region bordering India. Developed through Japanese Grant Aid, it serves as a vital transportation and logistics route for local communities.

Damage and Restoration Efforts

Due to heavy rainfall in September 2024, the road suffered severe damage, including washouts and landslides. This project targets urgent restoration, prioritizing the most critically affected sections.

Project Outline

"The objective of the Project is to ensure traffic safety and more resilient road infrastructure by rehabilitating damaged areas of the Sindhuli Road caused by the heavy rains that occurred in September 2024, thereby contributing to social and economic development in Nepal."
