Basalt open house invites public feedback for affordable housing project

Basalt Open House Invites Public Feedback on Affordable Housing Project

The town of Basalt is hosting a public open house to gather community input and share details about the proposed Willits Housing and Community Space project, located on Lewis Lane. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.

“The town is exploring options for developing affordable housing and a community space on a 2.3-acre parcel of land,” the press release states. “The town is seeking further community member, employer, and stakeholder input to share the next level of design for the project.”

This initiative aims to address Basalt’s most pressing challenge—increasing affordable housing options in the town, according to the release. It also supports objectives outlined in the 2020 Basalt Master Plan to offer housing for a variety of residents near commercial and transit hubs.

Though still in the conceptual stage, the project plans to include housing units ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments, along with a community center.

The open house follows a series of previous engagement efforts, including focus groups, neighborhood meetings, pop-up feedback sessions, and an online survey. Residents can participate by completing the survey and learning more about the project at letstalk.basalt.net.

In unrelated news, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a woman reported missing on Tuesday has been found.
