Iconic Wolverhampton venue given new look and new life as owner looks to help make city destination hub

Iconic Wolverhampton Venue Reimagined as City Event Hub

A former banqueting suite and event venue in Wolverhampton has been transformed with a fresh name and a complete makeover. The building on Skinner Street, now called The Apollo, was previously known as the Diamond Banqueting Suite and the Astoria.

The Apollo is the latest addition by nightlife entrepreneur Shaun Keasey, who took over the venue earlier this year. Since then, it has been extensively renovated, featuring new décor, advanced sound and lighting systems, updated audiovisual equipment, large screens, carpets, and furniture. The refurbishment cost nearly a quarter of a million pounds.

"It's the end of a journey for us in terms of hospitality as we've got the Gorgeous nightclub, we've got Popzone, we've got the George Wallace and we've got the Royal London, but they're all pubs and clubs, whereas this is a proper huge events venue."

Keasey highlighted the venue's shift from its previous bright banqueting suite style, similar to Civic Hall and arena-type venues, to a darker, more dramatic setting fit for hosting major musical acts.

"In the past, when you went into the Diamond, it was very much a banqueting suite, very brightly coloured and very much akin to the Civic Hall and arena-type venues, while this is very dark and like the kind of venue where you would expect to go to see a huge singer."

Summary: The Apollo revitalizes a historic Wolverhampton venue with modern upgrades, aiming to establish itself as a major event destination beyond traditional pubs and nightclubs.
