Hyundai's smallest electric vehicle, the Ioniq 3, is preparing for its debut. It will compete with Kia’s upcoming EV4 while sharing the same E-GMP platform in a simplified 400-volt configuration.
The Ioniq 3 is a production evolution of the Three concept shown at the Munich motor show in September. Positioned below the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, it offers a compact and less complex option in Hyundai’s EV lineup.
Unlike its larger siblings running on the 800-volt E-GMP system, the Ioniq 3’s 400-volt setup means slower charging and likely smaller motors, but it also reduces the vehicle’s price point, making it more accessible for new EV buyers.
Recent photos reveal a clean and dynamic body with a sporty low nose and slightly elevated ride height, giving it a subtle crossover feel compared to the sleeker concept car.
Despite technical similarities to the Kia EV4, Hyundai’s design approach ensures the Ioniq 3 projects its own character. Its confident stance and clean proportions are aimed at a modern audience that values efficiency blended with style.
“Their very different designs mean the casual buyer will never guess the connection.”
Author’s Summary: The Hyundai Ioniq 3 blends affordability with distinctive design and a streamlined 400-volt platform, expanding Hyundai’s EV portfolio with a compact and confident new model.
