Organic growers are now seeking alternatives for organically grown young plants following the unexpected closure of Plantenkwekerij Jongerius, a major propagation company.
GrowOrganiX and Biological Youngplants are actively working to fill this gap. Representatives Lodewijk Stolk and Wim van Marrewijk commented on the situation:
“Like many others, we were completely taken by surprise by the sudden shutdown of all operations at Plantenkwekerij Jongerius in Houten.”
Since the closure last Friday, both companies have been collaborating intensely to provide organic fruiting-vegetable propagators with alternatives, aiming to prevent significant disruptions in the upcoming season.
Through close cooperation with partners and support from SKAL, GrowOrganiX and Biological Youngplants expect to deliver suitable solutions to affected propagators by the end of the week.
Smaller growers have also reached out, concerned about losing their supplier for small quantities of certified organic vegetable plants and herbs. Discussions are ongoing to ensure these certified organic crops remain available.
“We've been in intensive discussions about how to fill this gap, especially since these crops must continue to be available as certified organic material.”
Summary: The sudden closure of Plantenkwekerij Jongerius has prompted GrowOrganiX and Biological Youngplants to swiftly develop solutions, ensuring organic growers continue to access certified young plants without disruption.
