Blondie guitarist Chris Stein has spoken publicly following the arrest of five individuals charged with distributing the fentanyl that led to the death of his 19-year-old daughter, Akira, in May 2023.
On October 30, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other agencies announced the arrests. The statement revealed that the fentanyl distributed by these five men caused fatal overdoses of three 19-year-olds, including Akira Stein and Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, grandson of Robert De Niro.
Stein, 75, posted a photo of Akira on Instagram the same day, expressing gratitude towards the authorities for their efforts in the investigation.
“Arrests have been made and announced today in Akira’s case. The DEA, US Attorney folks from the NYC Southern District and NYPD have been very sympathetic and respectful all this process and I can’t thank them enough for this hope of some justice for her,” Stein wrote. “Please be careful.”
Chris Stein and his wife, actress Barbara Sicuranza, are also parents to a 20-year-old daughter named Vali. They publicly announced Akira’s death in July 2023, revealing that it resulted from an overdose in May.
