Wiltshire Council is celebrating a significant milestone: 100 Independent Visitors have now been matched with children and young people in care or those who have experienced care. These volunteers bring kindness, consistency, and a meaningful presence into these young lives.
The Independent Visitor Scheme encourages volunteers to spend time with children or young people in care, acting as trusted adults outside the care system. They provide consistent, long-term support tailored to the interests and needs of each child or young person.
Sarah Atkinson is the 100th Independent Visitor to join this initiative, adding to a dedicated group who commit their time, energy, and compassion. She shared her experience:
"It was a lovely surprise to find out that my young person and I were both the 100th match and to attend the celebration event together. We both enjoyed the cupcakes, and she had fun creating pictures and having balloons. We are recently matched, and it was nice to continue getting to know her and I look forward to our future visits together."
Through this scheme, children and young people receive invaluable support from volunteers matched to them based on shared interests and needs, fostering meaningful, lasting relationships.
Wiltshire Council continues to improve its services through feedback and information collection methods, including the use of cookies on their website.
