An emergency closure has been implemented on the A592 at High Kingate, roughly midway between Troutbeck and the Kirkstone Inn, following a major landslip caused by recent heavy rainfall.
The closure began on Wednesday, 5 November, after the landslip partially weakened the roadway. Engineers and safety teams are now conducting detailed inspections to evaluate the damage and determine the next steps.
Traffic is being redirected along a signed diversion via the A6 while assessments continue.
"Safety of road users is our main priority and this emergency closure is necessary to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done," said a spokesperson for Westmorland and Furness Council. "Further updates will be provided when we know more."
