Neighbours object to plan for new houses on 'this area of natural beauty'

Neighbours Object to New Housing Plan in Ulverston

Plans to build five new homes on the outskirts of Ulverston have met with local opposition. An application for permission in principle was submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council by Mr. Ford, proposing up to five dwellings next to the Candlewyck B&B on Old Hall Road.

Community Concerns

Two objections from nearby residents have been registered during the planning process. One objection highlights the impact on a popular walking route, stating:

“[The development] is on a favourite walk for many Ulverstonians, making a circuit up or down Gill Banks and up onto the Flan. I strongly object to the encroachment of buildings onto this area of natural beauty.”

The second objection outlines eight reasons for opposing the plan, including concerns about flooding, environmental damage, and road safety. It also questions the social impact of the development:

“The development is likely to appeal mainly to the wealthy and will not provide housing suitable for people on lower incomes. Development here will not solve housing problems in Ulverston.”

Summary

Local residents oppose building new homes in a cherished natural area, citing environmental, safety, and social concerns about the proposed development on Old Hall Road.
