The Aurora Australis, known as the Southern Lights, might be visible from Victoria tonight. The Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre (ASWFC) has issued an Aurora alert confirming a geomagnetic storm currently in progress.
“Aurora may be observed during local nighttime hours in good observing conditions at high latitudes.”
The previous alert from the ASWFC was on October 30, when the phenomenon was seen around midnight across Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia. With clear skies and dark conditions away from city lights, people in southern regions may have a chance to spot this rare event.
Following last night’s mesmerizing supermoon, skywatchers are in for another treat. The Aurora Australis often paints the southern sky with shifting curtains of green, pink, and violet light, creating an enchanting spectacle over the horizon.
“Bright, beautiful and bedazzling, the Aurora Borealis is a big-ticket bucket list item for pretty much everyone on Earth.”
Although commonly associated with the north, the southern counterpart is equally magical. Those fortunate enough to witness it often describe the experience as otherworldly and unforgettable.
