Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor met with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to address crime and antisocial behaviour in the town, following major police operations across Hertfordshire.
Mr Taylor urged for Hemel Hempstead to be selected as a pilot area for the Government’s new Respect Orders. These are designed to empower police with stronger authority to manage persistent offenders and disruptive behaviour.
“Our community is a place to be proud of, but residents tell me antisocial behaviour continues to blight parts of Hemel Hempstead, and residents have had enough. I made it clear to the Home Secretary that Hemel should be at the front of the queue for the Respect Order pilot so we can take tougher action against those who make life miserable for others.”
The MP highlighted the importance of enhanced collaboration among local authorities, housing associations, and police forces, especially after recent enforcement actions in Hemel Hempstead.
“Recent major operations by Hertfordshire Police have shown what can be achieved when agencies work together,” Mr Taylor said. “That joined-up approach is essential if we’re to make lasting progress in tackling crime and restoring confidence in our community.”
Mr Taylor also commended Hertfordshire Police for their professionalism and commitment in safeguarding residents.
“Our officers do an outstanding job under immense pressure.”
Summary: David Taylor MP advocates for Hemel Hempstead to pilot Respect Orders and stresses the critical need for coordinated efforts to effectively combat crime and antisocial behaviour.
