Piastri Trails Norris in São Paulo Sprint Qualifying

Lando Norris delivered a powerful start to the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend, setting the fastest time and claiming pole position for the sprint race. His McLaren teammate and title rival, Oscar Piastri, will start third on the grid.

Fresh from his commanding victory in Mexico City, Norris extended his slim one-point championship lead over Piastri. At Interlagos, the British driver maintained his form, posting the two quickest laps during Saturday’s sprint qualifying session (AEDT).

Norris narrowly beat Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli by 0.097 seconds, while Piastri finished just 0.185 seconds adrift. Red Bull’s defending champion Max Verstappen will start sixth.

"We did the job we needed to do, which was to be fastest today," Norris said.
