The Roadrunners celebrate their 15th football season in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs, UTSA is in its third year as a member of the American Conference.
UTSA began its football program from scratch, with a practice year in 2010. Their first season as an FCS Independent was in 2011, followed by a move to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012. The team joined Conference USA in 2013 and attained full FBS status starting in 2014.
In 2011, UTSA set NCAA modern startup records by attracting 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 spectators over six home games that season.
"Opening the fall with a road win against Illinois of the Big Ten Conference, capturing their first conference championship with a 49-42 decision against WKU and capping a 12-2 ledger with their third bowl game."
UTSA has quickly established itself as a competitive program, showing steady growth and success since its inception.
