A retired STARS air ambulance helicopter has been relocated to The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary. The Airbus BK117, which began service in 1985, was part of the original fleet that launched the non-profit air ambulance organization.
Before retirement, the helicopter supported numerous missions throughout Western Canada. Marking the organization's 40th anniversary, STARS highlighted the aircraft as a symbol of the community’s vital role.
“Now, in our 40th year, this historic aircraft stands as a symbol of the remarkable contributions made by the community, for the community,” STARS said.
The fundraising campaign for STARS operations raised over $900,000, supported by more than 100 donors whose names are displayed on the helicopter.
The Hangar Flight Museum said it was honoured to become the aircraft’s permanent home, calling it “an inspiring legacy” that will preserve STARS’ story for future generations.
This relocation ensures the helicopter’s legacy continues, celebrating decades of life-saving work and community support.
