Brian Keeling, aged 93, from High River, passed away recently. He was a dedicated volunteer at the Museum of the Highwood, where his contributions left a lasting impact on the community.

Keeling began volunteering at the museum in 2011, dedicating three mornings each week. Over time, he catalogued more than 29,000 items, a crucial task especially after the museum faced severe challenges.

Challenges at the Museum

The museum endured a fire in 2010 and a flood in 2013, events that damaged many artifacts and photographs, some of which lacked backup copies.

“We went through a lot at the museum,” said Irene Kerr, the museum's director and curator for 17 years. “Brian was a fixture at the museum.”

Kerr, who worked closely with Keeling and shared many days volunteering alongside him, emphasized the importance of his work in recovering and preserving the museum’s collection.
