Jacob Elordi slams 'prudish' reaction to 'Saltburn' bathtub scene: 'There's far more extreme things in cinema'

Jacob Elordi Criticizes 'Prudish' Response to "Saltburn" Bathtub Scene

Actor Jacob Elordi has spoken out about the public's reaction to a controversial scene in Emerald Fennell’s 2023 thriller Saltburn. He believes viewers have been overly prudish about the film’s now-famous bathtub moment.

“There's more alarming things in the top 10 streamed remakes of crime documentaries on every streaming platform.”

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Elordi reflected on the scene in which Oliver, played by Barry Keoghan, drinks bathwater after secretly watching Elordi’s character, Felix, in an intimate act. The scene quickly went viral and even inspired a novelty candle dubbed “Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater.”

“I actually think it shows me just how prudish we are,” Elordi said. “When I watch that, I just think there are far more extreme things in cinema that I’ve seen—much more graphic.”

Elordi argued that audiences are often unfazed by violent or disturbing imagery in film and television, yet react strongly to sexual content, calling the double standard puzzling. He noted that society's comfort with on-screen violence contrasts sharply with its discomfort around sexuality.
