"The Sopranos" alum Edie Falco eyes female superhero role

Edie Falco shared that she would love to take on the role of a female superhero, describing it as an exciting new challenge. Known for her acclaimed performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, the Emmy-winning actress said she is drawn to playing complex, multilayered characters and rarely backs away from a demanding role.

“Never have I said I can’t do that,” she explained. “You find a way to make it work because you know when to stop before it’s dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”

Falco added that complex characters keep her motivated and engaged, while simpler roles hold less appeal.

“I look for those complicated characters. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”

Reflecting on her career, the 62-year-old actress said she feels fortunate to have portrayed a diverse range of women as female characters have become more layered and interesting over time.

“I’ve been very lucky that, since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated. I feel like I’m riding this wave of fascinating women.”

Falco also noted that avoiding typecasting early in her career may have worked in her favor.

“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”

Looking ahead, the actress is intrigued by the idea of portraying a political figure, joking that it might help her “get something out of [her] system.”
