Edie Falco, best known for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, expressed interest in playing a female superhero, describing it as an enjoyable new challenge. She thrives on portraying complex, multi-layered characters and has never faced a role she felt unable to handle.
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
Falco seeks out complicated roles because, in her words, "To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting."
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a wide spectrum of complex female characters. She believes she has been riding a wave of increasingly interesting and layered female roles since the beginning of her career.
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
Falco also reflected on how avoiding typecasting early on helped her. “I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older,” she noted.
Looking forward, Falco expressed interest in portraying a political figure, humorously adding that it might help her to "get something out of my system."
