Before this year, I didn’t consider myself a Bruce Springsteen fan. I knew of him, of course, but my knowledge barely extended beyond “[translate:Born in the U.S.A.]” and a few other hits. When I learned Jeremy Allen White would portray him in an upcoming biopic, I decided to explore Springsteen’s music. As a longtime admirer of White from “Shameless,” I was eager to see the film, but first needed to get familiar with the subject.

This marked the beginning of my dive into Springsteen’s vast discography. I quickly became a fan, albeit a new one. Lacking full understanding of the lore and references ingrained in his lyrics, I was unsure how compelling the movie would be for me. However, watching “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere” on opening weekend, I found the story engaging, despite some flaws.

The film excels at portraying an artist immersed in the creative process. It does not cover Springsteen’s entire life but zeroes in on the period when he was writing “[translate:Nebraska],” his sixth studio album.

“The movie doesn’t chronicle Springsteen’s whole life, but rather focuses on the period of time when he was writing ‘Nebraska,’ his sixth studio album.”

Author’s summary: This fresh look at Springsteen captures the intense creative journey behind Nebraska, revealing a new appreciation for the artist beyond his well-known hits.
