Joji has shared the third single from his upcoming album Piss In the Wind, scheduled for release on February 6. Earlier this week, he unveiled another single titled “If It Only Gets Better.”
“Past Won’t Leave My Bed” is a deeply emotional piano ballad co-written by Joji along with Jonathan Xavier Cunningham, fussy, P.J.A. Williams, and producer Dan Farber. The song captures the torment of being haunted by an ex-lover, with Joji describing a lovesick state where memories are inescapable.
In the opening verse, Joji sings about seeing his ex everywhere and finding refuge only in sleep, which is short-lived. The chorus layers fuzzy guitar chords over the piano as he repeats his emotional struggle. By the second verse, his attempts at self-comfort fail as the memories persist.
“If you ever go, all the songs that we like / Will sound like bittersweet lullabies.”
— A line from Joji’s 2020 song “Like You Do,” echoed in the new track’s themes.
The video for “Past Won’t Leave My Bed” shows Joji hitchhiking across the country and engaging in risky activities with questionable characters, symbolizing his effort to escape emotional pain.
Author’s summary: Joji’s new single poignantly explores lingering heartache through tender piano melodies and raw lyrics, marking a poignant chapter in his forthcoming album.
