The Met Office has issued an update addressing public concern about upcoming snowfall and the overall weather outlook for the UK. Forecasters predict that next weekend’s weather will be highly changeable.
Recent reports suggested that even southern cities like London and Southampton might face wintry conditions as temperatures drop and daylight hours shorten. However, the Met Office clarified that widespread snow is not expected.
“At this stage, for the vast majority of people it looks unlikely,” said meteorologist Greg Dewhurst.
According to Dewhurst, limited snowfall is anticipated only over the highest Scottish peaks. He noted that light snow was already falling in the Cairngorms and could appear briefly on the summits.
“This weekend we could see temporary coverings of snow on the Scottish mountains, but by Sunday night and through to Monday, the whole of next week looks very mild,” Mr Dewhurst explained.
Contrary to the expectations of harsh winter weather, the forecast suggests that Britain will instead encounter unusually mild conditions throughout most of the following week.
The Met Office downplays fears of widespread snowfall, predicting mild weather next week except for brief snow on Scotland’s highest peaks.
