Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner is being investigated after filmmaker Yi Zhou accused him of sending explicit messages and threatening to involve immigration authorities. This controversy challenges the positive public image Renner had been rebuilding.
Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in Marvel’s Avengers, recently made a celebrated comeback following a near-fatal accident. However, his reputation is once again at risk due to serious misconduct claims.
Yi Zhou, a noted Chinese director whose films have appeared at Sundance and Cannes, worked with Renner on two projects: the documentary Chronicles of Disney and the animated film Stardust Future. Their initially professional relationship reportedly became personal in mid-2025.
Zhou has publicly shared disturbing accounts of Renner's behavior. In interviews with the Daily Mail and on social media, she described an incident in August at Renner’s home in Reno, which was supposed to be a project meeting but escalated into a two-hour drunken outburst.
"Feeling threatened, I shared my location with colleagues and locked myself in a room, hoping he would not try to enter," Zhou said.
Jeremy Renner’s image faces significant challenges as allegations from filmmaker Yi Zhou unfold, raising questions about the actor’s conduct behind the scenes.
