Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to the United States and taken into custody in connection with a Miami shooting investigation, according to the Miami Herald.
“Miami Police confirm that U.S. Marshals have apprehended Antonio Brown and that he has been extradited to the US. No date has been set for his transfer to Miami-Dade County,” said police spokesperson Mike Vega, as reported by NBC News.
Brown had been wanted for several months for his alleged role in a shooting that occurred on May 16 outside an amateur boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. Video recordings appeared to show him involved in a physical altercation moments before shots were fired.
He was briefly detained at that time but released without formal charges. Later, in June, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, offering him the chance to surrender voluntarily for a $10,000 bond and house arrest. Brown, however, did not comply.
The case is now progressing toward trial, with reports indicating proceedings could begin soon. Brown may face a potential murder charge depending on the outcome of the investigation.
Just a week prior to his arrest, the 37-year-old athlete posted a sponsored video to his 15 million Instagram followers promoting the online betting platform BC Game. The footage showed him driving a black Lamborghini at an unspecified location with an upbeat, carefree demeanor.
Antonio Brown’s extradition and arrest mark a major shift in the Miami shooting investigation, bringing the controversial former NFL star closer to facing justice.
