FireDrone Secures €161K from Venture Kick for Heat-Resistant Drones

Swiss startup FireDrone is developing innovative drone technology to boost safety in emergency response and industrial inspections. Their drones are engineered to protect people, infrastructure, and the environment while enhancing safety during high-risk operations worldwide.

Funding and Purpose

FireDrone, a spin-off from Empa, received €161,000 (CHF 150,000) from Venture Kick to advance the development of heat-resistant drones capable of operating in extreme environments.

Challenges in High-Temperature Environments

Firefighters and industrial safety personnel face significant dangers when working in high-temperature conditions such as burning buildings and industrial furnaces. These hazards include toxic smoke, unstable structures, and intense heat. Conventional drones normally fail to operate effectively in these circumstances, limiting access to timely situational data.

Innovative Heat-Resistant Drone Technology

FireDrone creates autonomous drones designed to endure temperatures up to around 200°C. The drones integrate thermal insulation and cooling systems to maintain functionality, allowing them to detect hazards in real time where traditional drones cannot.

"The platform uses thermal insulation and cooling to support safety, reduce downtime, and inform operational decisions."

Market Focus

The company targets two main segments:

Initial markets include cement, steel and aluminium manufacturing, waste-to-energy, fertiliser, and glass production industries—areas where conventional drones struggle due to heat and smoke.
