Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, announced it will introduce three robotaxi models in 2026 and start trial operations for the service. The plan was revealed by the company's chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, at the 2025 AI Day event in Guangzhou, Xpeng's headquarters.
Each robotaxi will be equipped with four Turing AI chips developed in-house by Xpeng, delivering a computing power of up to 3,000 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second).
The models will feature Xpeng's second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, enabling adaptive driving across varying global traffic conditions. This innovation allows the vehicles to operate effectively in diverse environments without confining them to specific zones.
Xpeng stated that the robotaxis require no vehicle modifications and do not depend on high-definition maps, which supports low-cost, large-scale production. This design enables operations that extend beyond limited urban areas, including potential cross-city and cross-border usage worldwide.
The robotaxis will feature external interaction capabilities that let pedestrians understand the vehicle's intentions through the windshield, showing actions such as turning or seeking parking spots.
Xpeng intends to release its robotaxi Software Development Kit (SDK) to global partners to foster collaboration and develop a comprehensive robotaxi ecosystem.
