The NHS has issued an urgent plea for people to get their flu vaccination, warning that the worst of the flu season is just weeks away. England’s top nurse emphasized the importance of protection now as the typical winter peak nears.
Adults eligible for the flu vaccine are strongly encouraged to receive their jab promptly to ensure full protection before the flu season reaches its peak. This urgency follows an early surge in flu cases, appearing more than a month ahead of the usual schedule and at three times the rate of last year.
“The flu vaccination is the best possible way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu as we move into the winter months.”
“It’s a quick and easy painless injection and it really will help you keep yourself and your family well through winter.”
Allison Cannon shared this message after receiving her own flu vaccine, urging local residents to take up the offer.
Since the start of this year’s rollout, NHS teams nationwide have administered over 13 million flu vaccines (13,299,775 doses). In Sussex alone, 428,297 people, or 43.7% of the eligible population, have been vaccinated so far.
The NHS urges eligible adults to get their flu jab promptly as an early and severe flu wave threatens the upcoming winter, emphasizing the vaccine's role in protecting individuals and communities.
