A new leadership agreement within the World Zionist Organization (WZO) and the Jewish National Fund-KKL is reportedly close to completion. The proposal involves a rotation at the top between Rabbi Doron Perez and current WZO chairman Yaakov Hagoel.
The previous arrangement collapsed after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair Netanyahu, was unexpectedly nominated for a top board role. The offer sparked political backlash and led the opposition party Yesh Atid to withdraw from the earlier deal, throwing the World Zionist Congress into turmoil.
Under the revised plan, Yair Netanyahu will not receive a position within the WZO. The role he was meant to fill—head of the Diaspora and Information Department—was described as a senior position that included an office, vehicle, and minister-level salary. As of now, it remains unknown who will take that post.
“A new agreement, yet to be finalized, would see rotation at the helm between Rabbi Doron Perez and current WZO head Yaakov Hagoel.”
The reshaped WZO agreement restores stability after political fallout over Yair Netanyahu’s proposed appointment, likely ensuring Yaakov Hagoel’s return to leadership rotation.
