On October 28, Norwegian robotics company 1X Technologies unveiled its latest humanoid robot, NEO. The announcement attracted significant attention and sparked widespread discussion in tech communities and social media.
NEO is sleek, soft-bodied, and about the height of an average adult. No longer a sci-fi idea, it is a tangible product available to order for $20,000 or rent at $499 per month. Deliveries are expected to start in 2026.
Despite its advanced design, NEO is not yet capable of cooking, is not fully waterproof, and should not be left alone with children or pets. When confused, a human operator from 1X can guide it through tasks.
“NEO has a brain that isn’t all its own. This robot relies on both AI and human control.”
1X Technologies previously made an impact with their earlier model, EVE, enhancing expectations for NEO’s potential in household robotics.
NEO combines advanced AI and human oversight to offer practical home assistance, marking a new era of personal robots for everyday use.
