Former India batter Robin Uthappa shared a notable insight regarding Jasprit Bumrah's bowling during the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Uthappa suggested that Bumrah tends to lose his rhythm and discipline when he pushes too hard to claim wickets. This was evident in India's modest defense of 125 runs.
"When we were bowling after scoring 125, the start was very important. If we had picked up two or three wickets in the first three or four overs, the game could have been closer because we have quality spinners in the middle overs. I felt we were probably trying too hard to pick up wickets. So we got a little wayward," Uthappa said.
Despite his decent figures, Uthappa felt Bumrah was not at his usual composed best.
According to Uthappa, Bumrah’s occasional inaccuracy during this match stemmed from his eagerness to strike early and make an impact.
"The pacer's occasional waywardness often comes from his eagerness to strike early," Uthappa pointed out.
Author's summary: Robin Uthappa believes Jasprit Bumrah's off day against Australia was due to overexertion in wicket-taking efforts, causing a loss of his usual bowling rhythm.
