A group of math teachers at Cienega High School has come under fire after their Halloween costumes went viral online. They wore shirts stained with fake blood and emblazoned with the phrase “Problem Solved.”
Turning Point USA initially claimed the shirts were mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk. However, the Vail School District clarified that was never the intention. The teachers had worn the same shirts the previous year for Halloween, as confirmed by dated photos.
“‘We shouldn’t have worn them, and we shouldn’t have posted it in retrospect, and I have deep sympathy and understanding for all people who are victims of violence, including Charlie Kirk and his family,’ said John Carruth, the Vail School District Superintendent.”
Carruth emphasized that the image was taken out of context and spread rapidly without proper fact-checking, causing significant harm to the teachers involved.
No complaints were received from students or parents before the costumes went viral. Following the online backlash, the school district and the teachers have been subjected to threats from across the United States.
This incident highlights the dangers of misinterpretation on social media and the importance of verifying facts before spreading potentially damaging claims.
